If Pillay madam is willing to marry me,I am prepared to marry her even tomorrow
-Mervyn
The Minister Mervyn Silva has quipped that if the High Commissioner of the United Nations Human Rights Commission who is here in Sri Lanka for an official visit is willing to marry him he is willing to marry her even tomorrow.
This proposal was brought by the Minister while speaking at Maradana Suduwella area participating in a “Jana Piyasa”
mobile Community service meeting.
“ Tell Pillay madam to come to go around the country with me. If she comes I could relate to her our history from the time Maha Ravana and how Prince Vijaya came to Sri Lanka and how he was given accommodation and how he was married to ‘Kuweni’. If Pillay madam also keen I am prepared to marry her even tomorrow. I am slightly over 40. If Pillay madam has the strength to stand up and bear she could decide. It Muslims people can marry four, hence why can’t I marry two.
I wish to make her aware of out proud history. When the ‘whites’ did not where clothes we Sri Lankans wore clothes. We are a nation who had transactions with foreign countries even before the time of Jesus Christ. To gauge our history Pillay madam should go to Anuradhapura, Ruhuna and Polonnaruwa. I can explain to her more about our history even before the Wright brothers manufactured the first aircraft.
Sri Lanka was raged with the war for 30 years. At that time people could not flock together like this. They remained isolated. This was because at any moment a bomb would explode. We should be fortunate that this fear has been eradicated. Even many ancient Kings of the past could not stop wars, but our President was able to bring peace by defeating the terrorists who were fighting for a separate state. Many people do not exactly knoe about the Rajapaksa’s history.”
