“KEEP UP TO YOUR PROMISE-TIME TO DISROBE”

Mahiyangana Provincial Council Member, Chief Incumbent of the Mahaweli Maha Viharaya Ven Watareka Vijitha thera had conveyed to Ven Gnanasara thera to disrobe and joined the army as confessed by him. This was made in response to a statement the latter had made that if any person of his Bodu Bala Sena organisation was proved
to have damaged a single Muslim mosque, he would disrobe.
The Ven Watareka Vijitha thera had added this while speaking at special ceremony organised by the Upcountry Muslim Council. He added that on the 12th of July Ven Gnanasara thera and some others had come to the Maha Viharaya in Mahiyanganaya and have had a discussion and on the following day the 13th July had attacked a Muslim mosque and had brought and kept pieces of pork in the premises of the mosque.
The thera also stressed that just like ladies wear the Muslim ‘Nikab’ costume and get indulged in irregular activities the Buddhist Monks too wear the robe and does irregular activities. He added that anyone tries to ban the ‘Nikab’ dress; similarly the robes of persons who get indulged in irregular activities too have to be banned. A decision has to be taken in this regard.
