New Garbage Tax
Mr Chandana Tennakoon, the Commissioner of Mahanuwara Municipal Council says that, residents of the Mahanuwara Municipal Council limits will have to pay a ‘Garbage Tax’, within next few months.
He has said these, when he was inquired regarding the survey conducted by the Municipal Council officials during these days, about the garbage discarded from the houses,business places, and hotels, within the Municipal Council limits.
He has also said that, about 150 Tons of garbage is
collected within the municipal limits, while a survey is being conducted in that regards.
According to the sources, this tax will be activated if the garbage discarded from an institute exceeds five kilograms per day.
The Commissioner has further said that, a bill will be drafted after the survey,and get the approval from the Municipal Council, to activate the ‘Garbage Tax’
