An inmate of the Welikada prison is being investigated by the police over allegedly threatening two persons over the phone and demanding money.
The Matara Police received two complaints from a resident of Udyana Road, Matara and a woman living in Unawatuna, Galle after being threatened and extorted over the phone by an unknown man.
The Matara Criminal Investigation Unit discovered that the suspect was operating from the Welikada prison.
Police stated that he was serving a death sentence in prison
while police found a cellular phone and two sim cards in the suspect’s possession.
