Coconut Case - Updates
A committee appointed by the Western province Department of Education to look into the incident where a thirteen-year-old girl from Horana claimed that she took several coconuts from an adjoining land to raise Rs.800 rupees in order to paint her classroom, furnished findings through a report Saturday.
The investigation had been carried out by a four-member committee headed by the Director of Education in the Western Province , P.N. Ailapperuma.
According to the findings of the four-member committee, parents of the school had agreed to collect Rs.800 from
each child.
The report also confirms that the classroom in question had in fact been painted.
It has also been revealed that the provincial council had allocated funds amounting to Rs.150,000 to paint the school building in 2012.
