
Ranil Speaks About Rape Case
The Virakesari Newspaper reported today that Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had said that even though the woman named Isaipriya was a member of the LTTE, her rape and murder is an unforgivable act.
The report, states that the Opposition Leader had said that women in the North were subject to grievous acts of violence during the war.
The report published in the Virakesari newspaper on Friday quoted statements made by Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Parliamentary Complex at the occasion to mark the commencement of the work of the
Commission to Examine Acts of Violence against Women.
The report states that Wickremesinghe had said that even though Isaipriya was a member of the LTTE Media Unit, her rape and murder is an act that can in no means be condoned.
Wickremesinghe had also said that women should not be viewed as playthings of men.
The report states that Wickremesinghe had also questioned as to how it can be said that the United Nations Charter is being protected in Sri Lanka, when such acts of violence are being committed against democracy in the country.
