In the Cabinet subcommittee meeting it had been had confirmed that the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama organisation has absolutely no legal powers to issue Halal certificates
The committee of course had approved that the Muslims are allowed to consume food with the halal label. It is learnt that legally it had been passed to issue the Halal certificate in the year 2007 But this approval had been disapproved in the year 2008.It is now reliably learnt that this certificate has to be issued under the approval of the Muslim religious unit of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The final conclusion on this conflict is this.
This procedure to be adopted has been made under the
guidance and leadership of the senior Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and the proposals are to be tabled to the cabinet Minsters.
