Prostitution is not banned in Sri Lanka

Prostitution profession is not banned in Sri Lanka which is one of the oldest professions in the World

There is a saying that prostitution is one of the oldest professions in the World. Even today it had a very high demand. In many countries prostitution is legalized.  Among them there are Buddhist countries as well. In Sri Lanka there is a huge request for its legalization  spoken as priority topic and had been a matter subjected to discussion. This matter had been spoken and discussed over the media with Dr Janaki Jayawardena a lady lecturer in the History department in the University of Colombo.

Initially was really meant by prostitution? It is in the real sense providing sexual needs for money. It is the profession to many. It could be described as offering a much needed service rendered for money by engaging in sexual acts. It
could be compared to someone who works in an institution for a wage. The women who are in this field also regard this as their profession.

The women who are engaged in prostitution are basically because of poverty. It is not the reason for ‘girls’ to come to the city from villages to engage in prostitution. In villages too there is prostitution. Hence there is no difference in prostitution in the city and the village.

The media reports the prostitution vividly to get the newspapers sold. This is social problem which has to be deeply studied and analysed.
