There had been a strong protest by the people of Galle ,Elpitiya and Karandeniya people fro the constructon of a road.The Chief organiser of the SLFP’s Geetha Kumarasinghe had come to the scene after a few hours and stopped the protest. After that Minister Gunaratna had come and scolded the police and had fired some gun shots to the air.
As an outsider had come to resolve this conflict the Minister had got provoked as the Minister had promised the people that he would resolve the issue. He had got perturbed that when he arrived at the scene there had seen nobody there.
It is learnt if Geetha Kumarasinghe did not intervene there would have been a terrific traffic jam in the area. At the
time the shots were fired there had been only a few police personnel and a few people in the area.
