Attempts made to capture the remains of
Ven.Indraratana Thera
The organizing committee of the Ven. Indraratana funeral committee had added the manner certain people behaved at the time of his funeral was very disgraceful and brought discredit to the deceased thera. The committee condemns this action.
This was revealed at a press conference held after the funeral by the Chief organiser Ven. Morathota Rahula thera .The President of the Dayake sabha of the Porona Pugatha temple N.A Jayaratna and the other members of the committee thoroughly condemned these acts
Ven Moratota Rahula Thera added that the late Ven.Indtaratana had been a resident monk after ordination had lived for 11 years in temples around here. Hence it was
decided by the Chief Incumbent and the Dayake sabha to hold the funeral in that area.
He added that the manner the people behaved from various organisations was shameful. They wanted to get credit by having the funeral at one of their locations.
Minister John Amaratunga was a close associate of Ven Indraratna thera who had helped him in his political affairs. Those Monks who came from Colombo were not aware of this. They came to Ratnpura under police protection. The other organisations tried to grab his body. The innocent people of the Porona area told that they want to have the funeral in their area.
Those who interrupted the Ministers speech were those who came from outside. Some had stressed that the thera was not give state honours. That is untrue. It was the HE President who gave a helicopter for his body to be flown from kandy to Colombo.
