As residents throw stones at STF
A tense situation arose in the Kuttikarachchi area of Kinniya following a clash between the STF and residents yesterday evening (June 18) while police were forced to fire shots into the air to bring the situation under control.
The situation arose after STF officers had inspected five carts allegedly illegally transporting timber from the Chunnakkadu forest following which the civilians involved in the incident had protested.
After several of them were arrested by the officers, the
residents began burning tires in protest while two persons were injured when the unruly mob pelted the STF with stones.
Police claim that the suspects had illegally entered the Chunnakkadu forest to cut trees for timber.
