About his Raining Cartoon
About media freedom some what people think today it is the freedom the media personnel get from the government. But if it is classified widely the media freedom would occur through the benefits what they receive from some embassies and some nongovernmental organisations the media personnel could accordingly changed the media freedom was added by the Minister of housing, construction , engineering services and public amenities, Wimal Weerawansa.
This was said by the Minister on the occasion of celebrating the second anniversary of the ‘Janasevana’ newspaper published monthly by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon
Ltd where the Minister was the Chief Guest at the occasion. At this occasion the first copy of the latest ‘Janasevana’ newspaper was presented to the Minister by the Chairman of the Associated Newspapers Ceylon Ltd ,Bandula Padmakumara.
He added further by saying that when he made a survey and found the observation that many English papers had published news items and letters about the tourist industry. He has quipped that how did the media personnel during the week end papers also had elaborated on the same subject. It is puzzling to him he had added. It is difficult to comment. There are only a few people who read all the papers. Most people read just one paper. Hence they do not know that the same news has appeared in all papers.
During the earlier speech made by media personality Seelaratna Senarath said that his cartoons are very common in newspapers. He said he was very happy about them. He always give them a ‘diary’ as a present every year, which are delivered to them as he cannot visit them personally he added. They are sent with the message to draw his cartoon every day. He also said that in about three newspapers the cartoons are published, may be on the same matter or on another matter. He said had wondered how three media men had thought of the same theme.
