If you come in ‘Nikab’ costume
They will have to be removed
Elections Commissioner
The Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has warned the Muslim Ladies not to come to the polling stations in their traditional “Nikab” dress where only their eyes could be seen. He had told in advance that such clothes will be removed at the polling station. If not they would not be allowed to cast their votes.
This matter was discussed at the yesterdays meeting held at the elections office where all party leaders met
regarding the issues that may arise while elections are been held and the correct manner as to how the elections would be held.
The Muslim ladies who also should come along with their National Identity cards will have to remove the top part covering the face with the ‘Nikab’. In the event they refuse to do so they will not be allowed to cast their votes was quipped by Mahinda Deshapriya.
He also told that International election observers are to be present and they would be arriving prior to the Election Day. The TNA party had made a request to confine the forces personnel to the barracks. This was declined by the Election Commissioner as in a place like Jaffna where a war had prevailed for a long time it cannot be acceded to.
