It is learnt that the higher Police authorities are very concerned for summoning the Army and the Commando Task Force to curb the protest made by the people of Weliweriya. This matter had be prolonging for some time and it was curbed to some extent by the Police without attacking the protesters. Although it came to a point to attack the protestors, they still resisted in taking that
course of action. The higher Police authorities are also concerned that after the Army and the Commando Task Force took over to bring about dispersing the mob of protesters had resulted in the death of an innocent teenager,16 years old and injuring over 40 persons , a few of them had been service personnel.
The Police reports that although two water bowsers were brought to attack the protesters, they not used at all. The Police also accuses that the Army and the Commandos task Force had not used tear gas to disperse the protesters amounted to about 7000 people all residents from the surrounding villagers. Instead they had adopted other methods like firing, beating with batons. During the firing a 16 year schoolboy had sustained gun shot injuries and had succumbed to his injuries. This innocent had been returning home after attending to a class. He is a resident of ‘Helenwatta’ in Weliweriya. In connection with the boy’s death the Chief Magistrate of Gampaha courts Tikiri Jayatillake had visited the scene of the incident yesterday afternoon the 2nd.
After the Magistrate inquiry was over at 11.30 a.m, the main Colombo-Kandy road was opened to the public. It was learnt this factory located in Weliweriya, Rathupaswela area is one that belongs to the M/s Hayleys Company. The major shares of this factory it is learnt is owned by a millionaire businessman and owner of a casino business, Dhammika Perera. Currently it is learnt that he is the Chairman of Sampath Bank
It is also learnt and reported that he owns the major shares of reputed companies like Pan Asia Bank, Welibal Finance, L.B. Finance, Rozelle, Lanka Wall tiles, Delmage and several other companies.
