President Speaks in Independence Day
Sri Lanka’s development and reconciliation is the best response to allegations from other countries in the world, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said delivering his speech at the 65th Independence Day Celebrations today in Trincomalee.
He stated that creating communal, religious disharmony is similar to promoting terrorism. Those who are spreading religious hatred are not serving their religion but
separatism, he said.
All citizens of the country have the right to live in peace and harmony, the President said addressing the nation.
He added that Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims are living together in peace in the South and East. “Trincomalee is a good example for this.”
Rajapaksa stated that separating the country according to race or religion is not practical.
He further emphasized that not only the government but the opposition too has to protect the country’s independence.
