Handunnetti Speaks about Law in Our Country
A Public lecture organised by the JVP was held in Thanabaddegama, Elpitiya, on Saturday
Speaking at the occasion JVP Politburo member, MP Sunil Handunneththi, expressed these views.
''As soon as we arrived the Elections Commissioner brought out the machine. There is a machine which shows whether the ballot paper is a fake or not. As soon as you put the ballot paper inside it turns blue. The ballot papers found in the garbage outside the technical college near the
Eheliyagoda Polling centre in Ratnapura, turned blue.''
''So it has been accepted that they are official ballot papers. The ballot papers found in Kalagaedihena also turned blue. The government and the elections commissioner must now accept that all these ballot papers which fell out on the way are official ballot papers.''
''The Elections Commissioner says it is true that they are official papers. But he says that the cross was placed next to the swan much later. Of the stack of 500 ballot papers brought from Kotmale, 430 fell out in Kalagedlhena. All 430 had the cross next to the swan. All 430 were marked for Fonseka.''
The MP also expressed these views regarding two Jaffna University undergraduates who
were recently released from rehabilitation.
''Where is the law in our country if the President can release anyone, whenever he wants. We must also think about the other side to this. The President also has the ability to arrest people when he sees fit. There is no law. Releasing those children is a different story.''
''But there is a question that our entire society must ask regarding the release of these students. If the President can order their release at the local development committee meeting, then under what law were they arrested?'' said MP Sunil Handunneththi.
