Ven.Athuraliya Rathana Speaks
Member of Parliament of the Jathika Hela Urumaya Ven.Athuraliye Rathana thera had disclosed that when one container with ‘spirits’ was detained it is reliably learnt that 10 such containers which also had contained the same ‘spirit’ had escaped from customs before they were perused .A strong politician had been behind this racket.
The Thera had added that it was the responsibility of the government to disclose the name of this strong politician and also to disclose his political position within the
government. He had also stressed that the custom officers who were involved in this racket too have to be brought to book.
The Ven. Athuraliye Rathana thera had added that through such malpractices the treasury of the government is deprived of loses amounting to millions of rupees. In this context the assets and liabilities of the custom officers need to be called, established and scrutinised.
