Heated exchange of words between Gotabhaya and Hakeem on Azath Salley issue
It is reliably learnt that there had been a heated exchange of words between the Leader of the Muslim Congress Party, the Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem and the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapasksa.
The Minister of Justice was furious over the arrest of the Leader of the Tamil Muslim organisation Asath Salley for sighting terrorist prevention Act .He wanted to know as there was provision in the law to arrest him by the CID.As the Minister of Justice he was unaware of his arrest and he had condemned the action of the government was the reason behind the heated argument between them.
These comments had been made by the Minister at a press conference. The argument had taken place the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya had called Rauff Hakeem over the
phone and discussed about the arrest of Azath Salley.
After the incident an officer of the Police intelligence had visited Rauff Hakeem’s residence and explained the reasons as to why Asath Salley was arrested for questioning.
