The other day at the Havelock’s club organised 7 a side rugby tournament, for accusation of assaulting the referee the Navy players Rohitha Rajapaksa and Chula Susantha had been called for explanation with regard to the incident. It is learnt that until the investigation are over these two players have been temporarily suspended from playing in any rugby matches the committee appointed had revealed.
It is learnt that during the match between the Navy and the Police the referee Dimitri Gunasekara had been subjected to this alleged assault by these two players.
A committee was appointed to investigate into the incident headed by Consulted Surgeon Dr Maiya Gunasekara. It is
learnt that he had withdrawn from leading the committee.
Subsequently for this committee as the head Ibrahim Hameed was chosen. The investigating committee had met yesterday in the presence of the Chairman and Secretary of the Sri Lanka rugby association too had participated.
The two accused players had been requested to submit letters of explanation for their defence within a week.
