Buses on Strike Tomorrow

Buses on Strike
Tomorrow

While railway employees ended their 48-hour countrywide strike last night, private bus operators have announced they would stage a continuous strike from tomorrow to pressure the government to increase bus fares.

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) said they would begin a countrywide strike tomorrow if the bus fare policy, which stipulates that fares should be subject to revision in July, was not immediately implemented.

“According to existing regulations the policy has to be implemented in July each year and not during any other
time of the year. We hope the government will respond to our demands and support us to increase the fares,” LPBOA President Gemunu Wijeyratne said.
