The four-wicket win against Hyderabad was Rajasthan’s first victory in three attempts since the spot-fixing revelations emerged. It’s a win that has energised the team hugely; they will start overwhelming underdogs against a formidable, power-packed Mumbai outfit, only a brave man will totally write them off.
While there already have been, and will continue to be, many fallouts of the spot-fixing expose, there has also been one immediate cricketing fallout which was obvious at the Kotla on Wednesday (May 22).
The team balance has gone for a toss with the non-availability of Chandila and Chavan, their two frontline Indian spinners. With Praveen Tambe, the 41-year-old leg-spinner, also out

Eliminator : Brad Hodge Helps Royals Beat Sunrisers

,

RR Beats SRH

Cometh the hour cometh the man. Seasoned campaigner Brad Hodge (54 off 29 balls) snatched a brilliant win for Rajasthan Royals to take the team to the Qualifier 2 when they rallied to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by four wickets in the Eliminator at Ferozshah Kotla Stadium on Wednesday. The winners meet Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 for a place in the final against Chennai Super Kings.
The Royals chased a small target of 133 in 19.2 overs with Hodge, fittingly, clubbing two successive sixes off Darren Sammy in the last over. CSK along with Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals qualified for the Champions League.
It was a very important victory for Rahul Dravid and his men. Battling adversity and embarrassment, the Royals put behind the nightmare of the spot fixing to
shatter the dreams of Sunrisers.
Being reduced to 57 for 5, the 38-year-old Hodge walked in with Royals on the back foot. But the Aussie, helped by a poor bowling by young leg spinner Karan Sharma, chanced his arm superbly to take 18 runs, included two sixes and one four in one over, to change the course of the match.
Chasing a modest target of 133, Rajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid was out for 12, falling to Ishant Sharma. But Ishant was wayward in his third spell when he gave 15 runs. Shane Watson threatened to take the match away with a 15-ball 24 before Darren Sammy pulled off a spectacular catch at deep mid-wicket.
The match turned head on as Sammy dismissed Dishant Yagnik. Sunrisers tightened the screws with Amit Mishra

Angelo Mathews steps down from Pune Warriors captaincy

Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews on Thursday decided to step down from Pune Warriors’ captaincy for the rest of the current Indian Premier League season to ensure that there is continuity in the leadership.
Australian batsman Aaron Finch has led the side in a lot of games as Mathews was dropped due to poor form.

“It is in our best interests that the captaincy is not switched frequently as we strive to achieve the best balanced team for each different opponent. Given that Aaron (Finch) is likely to play in all our remaining games then it is logical that he continues to be our captain,” Mathews said in a statement.

From this year’s IPL tournament the most frustrated lot is no doubt some of our cricketers who are world’s renowned players. With this comment there would be no one would disagree. The Sri Lankan players joined in the IPL despite terrific pressure from the Tamil Nadu government who had even made a request the central government to refrain from Sri Lankan players in participating in the IPL. What was said by one of our pundits was that Tamil Nadu is only a state of India and it is not India as a whole.

The Sri Lankan cricketers have now faced with a very embarrassing position been kept on the bench with captaincies of their franchises stripped off them. It may be
